The Essential At-Home Guide to Oiling Your Clippers and Scissors

Posted by Krystal Gillis on

Why do I need to oil my clippers and scissors?

To those unfamiliar with hair clippers or scissors, it can seem peculiar to oil these products. However, proper lubrication keeps these products in the best possible shape.

For both clippers and scissors, oil is essential because it helps to reduce friction which keeps them from snagging or pulling hair. It also prevents rusting and maintains the maximum speed and performance of these tools.

What kind of oil should I use?

It’s best to use an oil that has a lower viscosity, or in other words, it’s thin. We recommend using a canned spray bottle of household olive oil or canola oil. It’s not necessary to use a dedicated product oil. We have over 30 years of industry experience and we can tell you that dedicated oil products generally have the same effect.

How often should I oil my clippers and scissors?

You should oil your clippers and scissors before each use. This helps ensure that you’re getting the best results from your product.

Where do I put the oil?

For your clippers:

Spray continuously one coat of olive oil onto the blade while running the clipper. Then, power the clipper off and wipe any residue. You’re ready to go!

For your scissors:

Spray olive oil directly around the screw of the scissor. Then, wipe away any residue. You’re good to go!
